Back to Feeling Like Me
How AWARENESS, INTENTION, ACTION, and the right CREW always bring me back to what works.
How do I say this…I’m not feeling “fit” lately.
Not in the way I know I can feel when everything is clicking.
We’ve been skiing a ton, which means I’m not really “training.” I’ve been eating more of a ski diet than a Bergeron diet. My sleep has been off because we’ve been on the west coast and had early flights on both ends of the trip. We’ve been hammered with snowstorms — which I actually love — but they make it harder to get outside and be active like I am when it’s warmer and the roads are clear enough for running.
I mean, my laundry list of excuses could go on longer than I’m willing to let it.

When we were at Kat’s last week, Ben was out in their gym for more than two hours one day. When I asked him why he was working out so much, he said, “I just feel really good when I’m training a lot and feeling really fit.”
I loved that because it was such an honest answer — and honestly, it’s exactly how I feel too.
I can come up with a hundred reasons why I don’t have time to train that much, or why I should be working more instead, but the truth about myself is this: I am the best version of myself when I’m prioritizing my health.
When I’m eating really clean — no processed foods, lots of leafy greens, starting the day with my breakfast bowl, cooking homemade dinners full of colorful vegetables, complex carbs like brown rice or sweet potatoes, and lean proteins. When I’m lifting heavy things most days, sweating daily, sleeping eight hours a night, drinking plenty of water, and not drinking alcohol. When I’m writing. Talking to my parents and Maya every day. Calling my brother and Jonah every week (I know the boys don’t actually want to talk every day). Checking in with friends. Going on date nights with Ben every few weeks. Spending time outside with Buoy. Swapping out indoor rowing or biking for outdoor runs when I can.
It’s as simple as this: it feels really good to bring the best version of yourself to the table every day.
It feels good to feel good about yourself.
And when you have the awareness to recognize what creates that feeling, it becomes worth the energy, discipline, and effort it takes to make those things happen. Because none of it is actually “too hard.” It’s not crazy expensive. It’s not too much of a pull on your family. And it doesn’t take as much time as we tell ourselves it does.
It just takes what we talk about all the time: AWARENESS, INTENTION, & ACTION.
And it helps a lot to surround yourself with people who want to see you win. When I have people like Ben around me saying things like he said — reminding me why these things matter — it’s easier to stay motivated. When I spend time with friends who care about getting to bed on time or having one glass of wine instead of two or three, it’s easier to stay disciplined too. And when I have Maya and friends from the gym texting at night to figure out what class we’re taking the next day and rearranging schedules so we can be there together, it becomes almost impossible to skip — even when it’s not my “wheelhouse workout.”
We also say this all the time: BUILD YOUR CREW. Surround yourself with people who want to see you win. The ones who challenge you and call you out. No drama, negativity, or gossip. Just good vibes and growth.
And the more I think about it, the more I realize that feeling “fit” isn’t really about a number or a look or a perfect stretch of weeks where everything goes right. It’s about alignment. It’s about living in a way that feels consistent with the person you want to be — and surrounding yourself with people who make that version of you easier to show up as.
It’s about YOU setting YOURSELF up to WIN.
Because when you’ve felt that version of yourself before, you know exactly where you’re headed back to.
